Terra Nova Wines

portugal

This diverse country has long lived in the shadows of Spain and the rest of Europe. "Its very unpredictability and refusal to conform to international norms are what makes Portugal such a gloriously fascinating wine country and yet such an infuriating one." - Oz Clarke

Vinho Verde
“This part of Portugal has been touched by wine revolution and evolution just as much as any other.” (Jancis Robinson)  Vinho Verde derives its name from the greenness of its land and for the fact that its cool climate often prohibits the grapes from achieving full maturity, thus producing a wine with crisp acidity.

Alentejo
The wines of Alentejo are often classified as Portugal’s “New world wines.”  There is a large amount of over-ripe wine produced in this southern region, and international varietals are being planted. However, this area was first conquered and planted by the Romans and they have been making wine here ever since. So there are still a good number of dedicated producers rooted in the past with an eye on the future, and their wines are compelling advocates for their land’s history and its traditional grapes.
